Founder and CEOJohn Michael (Mike) Falvey, Founder and CEO of Falvey Insurance Group, is a 1978 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. Following his graduation he worked with Affiliated FM Insurance as a cargo underwriter.
In 1979, he went to sea with various shipping companies and eventually joined the U.S. Military SeaLift Command where he served as First Assistant Engineer on board MSC vessels providing fleet support for the U.S. Navy. From 1983 to 1984 he was the Liaison Officer to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary in London. In 1984 he joined Donald J. Rojas, Inc. in Warwick, Rhode Island and served as an underwriter from 1984 to 1995.
In 1995, he started Falvey Cargo Underwriting, Ltd., a covernote facility of Lloyd's. The company specializes in providing marine cargo cover for the high tech and life science industries. It is the largest cargo covernote facility in Lloyd's. He has grown that company since its inception to a multidiscipline insurance group including Falvey Yacht Insurance, Falvey Shippers Insurance, Falvey Systems, LLC, Falvey Cargo Underwriting, and Safe Harbor Pollution Insurance, LLC all under the umbrella of Falvey Insurance Group. The company also has a reinsurance company in Bermuda, Falvey Insurance Company, Ltd.
Mike holds the following insurance disciplines: Charted Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Associates in Marine Insurance Management (AMIM).
Senior Vice PresidentCatherine joined Falvey Cargo Underwriting as employee number two in 1996. Catherine’s 23 years of expertise in Marine Cargo Administration, Claims, Underwriting, and Operations, benefit clients and colleagues alike in providing solutions for their ever changing needs. Catherine obtained her Associate in Marine Insurance Management (AMIM) and her Associate in Insurance Services (AIS) and is currently matriculating towards her Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation.
Vice President of UnderwritingMichael joined Falvey Cargo Underwriting in 2009. Starting in the San Francisco office, Michael developed and nurtured deep underwriting relationships and expertise in the high tech and life science fields. During that time, he also wrote a broad range of general cargo and large stock throughput accounts. Michael moved to the New York office in 2013, further expanding his relationships and market expertise, and is now based in the corporate headquarters in North Kingstown, RI. Michael attended Union College and the Lloyd’s Beazley Academy. Michael is currently working on his Associate in Marine Insurance Management designation.
Senior Vice President, ProTecht Risk SolutionsTed O’Sullivan is the Senior Vice President of the ProTecht Risk Solutions group at Falvey Insurance Group where he manages the loss prevention, claims and recoveries functions. Ted has had extensive business and consulting experience in the analysis of incremental business value through technology enablement of critical business processes. At Falvey, Ted has supervised ProTecht’s delivery of value-driven services for Falvey’s high technology, life science and yacht clients including proactive loss prevention services, strategic claims processing, and aggressive recovery measures. ProTecht’s loss prevention engineers are experts in risk mitigation tactics and travel the world inspecting manufacturing and shipping facilities, carrier warehouses, yacht repair facilities and transit routes from origin to destination.
Before joining Falvey Insurance Group, Ted was a Director of Strategic Services at i2 Technologies, a supply chain software company, where he managed value consulting engagements in the telecommunications sector. Ted led several Strategic Opportunity Assessment engagements for some of the world’s leading telecommunications corporations (including two of the largest telecom companies in the world) and delivered over 22 value propositions and value assessments.
Prior to his i2 experience, Ted had over fourteen years telecommunications experience with AT&T, Lucent Technologies and Avaya. Ted has also worked at Arthur Andersen & Co, as a Senior Manager in the corporate audit organization.
Ted has a BSBA from Georgetown University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
